Motion sensors have become more accessible, and we’ve been seeing an increasing number of motion based interactive projects in a wide range of industries. But nothing compares in terms of beauty and complexity to performance arts.
Responsive projections embrace the flowing human to create a new form of art. Displaying a level of control over motion that is unprecedented. Real-time motion capture projected onto a 3d mapped surface make these projects not only mesmerizing but extremely complex.
Mortal Engine by Chunky Move
Melbourne based dancers Chunky Moves, have given life to Philip Reeve‘s Mortal Engines. With expressive choreography and dramatic graphics they have manage to communicate the essence of the novel in a truly remarkable way.
Seven Sense (Excerpt) by Anarchy Dance Theatre + UltraCombos
This Taiwanese band has created the most technically challenging piece of this collection, 3d projecting onto three walls and the floor all synchronized with motion sensors that react accordingly to the surface they are projected onto, just WOW.
You should watch it all, but if you must you can jump to 2:50 for the more complex part of the performance.
Apparition – Klaus Obermaier & Ars Electronica Futurelab
Apparition fuses the performers to a point where they are almost indistinguishable from the video display. The media artist, Klaus Obermaier, achieve a level of precision and interactivity that is highly immersive and visually enriching.
